Every year, more Americans opt to retire overseas for a expatriate life. Have you thought about this? Some retirees don’t choose to leave their homes and loved ones, but others are drawn to living abroad. Where to retire? Well, You can easily research your most alluring countries. One way to do this is to vacation abroad and living there. You should, of course, live abroad for 6-12 months before you make your final move. By doing this you can see the advantages and disadvantages before you make your final decision.

Boomers Blaze the Path to Retire Early

Plenty of Americans may decide for a variety of reasons to live abroad. Perhaps seniors, who often have to make do on a fixed income that grows tighter as time passes, would prefer to conserve their money and retire to a country with more reasonable taxes and a more consistent year-to-year cost of living. The cash saved by making such a move could be devoted to a plethora of worthy causes, such as vacations and a nice home. While it may not be possible to stretch your money that far by remaining in the U.S., boomers, as well as people who want to retire early or retire young, might consider moving overseas to enjoy those benefits listed above and more.

The internet has offered boomers, and anyone else who wants to retire early or retire young, with more retirement options than ever. With information so widely available, many are finding foreign countries more accessible. Not only are living expenses cheaper in some overseas countries, but medical care and housing can also be more affordable when you cross that international boundary line. Mexican cities boast that you can often find U. S. –trained doctors and dentists who have returned to Mexico to provide much needed care at lower prices.

Is Panama the Best Place to Retire?

In Panama, the real estate market offers a range of available housing prices. There are oceanfront or mountainside options available. With a lower cost of living and an environment similar to that of the state of Florida and other popular United States’ retirement destinations, you can enjoy sandy beaches and waterfront restaurants in a casual and relaxing atmosphere as an expatriate living overseas.

Flights between Panama and the US are cheap. Crime is lower in Panamanian cities than in many American cities. Panama uses the US Dollar as its official currency, making the move even easier. Many American retirees, boomers, and other people who want to retire early or retire young choose to live in South America, and Panama lets people live enjoyably at an inexpensive price.

U.S citizens are not only choosing tropics for retirement. It seems that a number of retirees (boomers, and other folks who want to retire early or retire young, including those who just want to live abroad) have gone so far as to the Philippines and Thailand. Much like Mexico and other nearby countries, there are doctors and specialists who are trained in the US and are able to offer health care at economical prices. Often retirees find the cultures to be interesting and the attitudes of locals to be warm and kind. Many American Retirees can easily compensate their living cost with a few thousand dollars in these places for each month.

Florida, once a popular retirement location in the USA, and many other locations are seeing a drastic reduction in the number of retirees taking residence there due to the escalation in the cost of living and real estate. It is no surprise that many Americans (boomers, and other folks who want to retire early or retire young, including those who just want to live abroad) are choosing instead to retire overseas where it is becoming apparent that suitable homes can be found at much more affordable prices.

Provence is the sunny bit at the bottom of France. There is a seaside bit (the Côte d’Azur,) a marshy bit (the Camargue) and a hilly bit (the Alps.) The Cote d’Azur is the most expensive area for property but inland apart from the Luberon property prices are cheaper. For more about: Properties in Provence

Anyone with any doubts about buying Provence property for sale need only look to the abundance of activities and entertainment on offer both in the major cities and rural areas.

A light hearted look at Provence’s history:
Marseille is France’s second city and joins ‘New York, New York’ and ‘I Left my Heart in San Francisco’ in having a song named after it. Actually La Marseillaise was written by a citizen of Strasbourg and sung in Paris by revolutionaries from Marseille who’d heard it sung there by a man from Montpellier. So the title of France’s national anthem just means ‘That song those blokes from Marseilles sing.’

Our favourite areas: All the way down to the south east corner of France along the Mediterranean, and adjacent to the Italian border, are the Maritimes Alps and the world renowned coastal strip of the Côte d’Azur. What makes this departement so beautiful is its rugged coastline with the Alps cascading in the blue sea. At certain times of the year you have the difficult choice of deciding whether to ski or to swim! The slopes and the sea are just an hour apart by car. The sun is shining for 320 days a year.

Which is your favourite area of PACA (Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur)? Check out our Guides: Living in Côte d’Azur

On the whole Americans enjoy traveling. While Americans may not travel quite as much as Australians, Europeans, or Chinese; they do enjoy exploring diverse countries and cultures. In the past, Americans have tended to mostly visit countries that speak English and have a similar culture. Nevertheless, Americans are expanding their horizons and visiting these 10 countries most frequently.

1. Mexico
Our neighbor just south of the border is not only nearby but inexpensive. If you don’t get many vacation days, Mexico is a great solution. They have stunning beaches and resorts, a good exchange rate, a special culture and passport rules are more slack than other countries.

2. Canada
Canada is the subsequent most visited country. Canada is stunning and many Americans enjoy going to both the country area and seeing the scenic beauty, along with major cities like British Columbia, Montreal, and Quebec. Quebec is the little France at a cheaper price and closer proximity. Plus Canadians are generally America friendly.

3. England
Since England used to have possession of the United States and many American’s relatives are from there, this is the most visited country abroad. England also has a close bond with the United States, plus it’s English speaking which makes this a leading destination.

4. Italy
Italy is home to so much history. There are so many Rome, Vatican City, Milan, Florence, Venice, and Tuscany. Not to mention that they have unbelievably delicious food. Plus Italy is more reasonably priced to go to in comparison with other western European countries.

5. France
Since our country was established, France has been a great friend. Although we don’t see eye to eye on everything, this is a great place to see. Paris is famous for being one of the most picturesque cities in the world. In addition, France also provides a unique culture. Although plan ahead, because it is very expensive.

6. Germany
Germany offers a lot of history. There are great cities like Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Dresden, Nuremberg, and obviously the Black Forest. Germany offers variety that many countries can’t. It is a very impressive country and the exchange rate is not in our favor, but it is a lot of fun and bordered by many other countries which makes it a great place to start or finish your trip in Europe.

7. Bahamas/Caribbean
The Bahamas is an exciting destination for travelers. It offers breath-taking resorts and pristine beaches. Tourists really get to relax and enjoy themselves. The Bahamas is a popular destination along with other Caribbean countries because they offer a break from routine life. Plus they’re close, safe, and economical.

8. Ireland
Besides the irresistible accent the Irish have, they are also friendly. In Ireland you really get to explore the countryside and feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The country is green and tourists flock to see sheep and thatched cottages. There are also exciting cities tourists may spend their time in. Plus, the recession has hit Ireland hard so this is a cheaper European destination.

9. Japan
While Tokyo is one of the most high-priced cities in the world it is a great place to visit. This destination provides Americans with an experience they cannot come across anywhere else.

10. China
Because of the progress that China has experienced it’s a refuge for businessmen and tourists alike. Tourists can buy plenty of stuff for very little money. There are great cities like Beijing, Hong Kong, and tourist spots like the Great Wall of China.

Although there are thousands of places to see all over the world, these are the ones more Americans want to visit than any other. The world offers exciting places to see but if you find yourself in a tight spot about where to go: have a look at some of these places but don’t restrict yourself.

South West France usually encompasses the regions of Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrenees. These are lovely areas to buy: Aquitaine Properties and / or Midi-Pyrenees Properties. The area is often referred to as Gascony but this area takes in most of the Aquitaine and the west side of the Midi-Pyrenees only. In particular, the Dordogne is a special favourite of the British with its lovely summers and splendid vistas of the Dordogne Valley. Quaint market towns, rolling landscapes, chateaux and vineyards punctuate the countryside. Midi-Pyrenees has dramatic landscapes and the Pyrenees dominate the southern border. But each department has its own character.

The Aquitaine is split into 5 areas called departments: On the coast Gironde, Landes, and Pyrenees-Atlantiques; inland: Dordogne, and Lot-et-Garonne. Midi-Pyrenees is a huge region and has many departments: Ariege, Aveyron, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Lot, Hautes-Pyrenees, Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne.

Let us have a fun look at their bygone times:

The Aquitaine: 30,000 years ago, it was inhabited by Neanderthal Man, who was notoriously messy and never tidied his cave. Only recently, another untidy Neanderthal cave was discovered near Bourg-sur-Gironde, and archaeologists are still busy picking up stone axes, half-eaten boxes of Narwhal nuggets and unwashed underpants. Neanderthal Man’s descendants can still be seen in Bordeaux today, usually when Girondins de Bordeaux are playing at home.

Now let us poke some fun at the Midi-Pyrenees! The Midi-Pyrénées doesn’t relate to a historical French region. It was created in the 1970s so that Toulouse could be capital of it. Job-creation on a grand scale. It worked, and Toulouse, formerly a bit out-of-the-way (think Taunton) is now Europe’s fastest-growing city. In 1999 Toulouse paid off its debts and became France’s first large city ever to achieve solvency. Toulouse is now exempt from overdraft charges and probably gets free ski insurance and AA membership.

1st for French Property was established in 2001 and we have plenty of experience to help you buy a property in Brittany. in the Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrenees.
